Olympic Peninsula Wine Trail WestOkay, I admit it, there is, as of yet, no officially sanctioned Olympic Peninsula Wine Trail – but that doesn’t mean you can’t make up your own!

The upper Olympic Peninsula has 9 great wineries / cideries all grouped within an hour or less of each other – from Port Townsend to Port Angeles – and most of which are open daily or by appointment all year ’round – so taking a tour is a no-brainer!

9 wineries can be a little overwhelming, however, especially with all the driving in between, so I’ve broken the tour down into two legs: the east and the west. Using the numbering on our association’s map, numbers 1-5 are the west leg, 6-9 the east. Today I’ll be focusing on the west leg and assuming that you’re coming into the area from the east on Hwy 101.

West Leg of the Olympic Peninsula Wine Trail:

1. Head west on 101 for around 17 miles until you see the second exit for Sequim, WA: S Sequim Ave.
Follow this to the right (north) until you reach W. Washington St.
Turn left on W. Washington and start looking for parking as Wind Rose Cellars is here, on your left, in the first block at 143.

2. Take Sequim Ave back out to 101 and again head west (right), following 101 for 9 miles to a left on O’Brian Rd.
Follow this for a short distance to a left on Chambers Rd.
Travel on Chambers until you see 255410 and Olympic Cellars

3. Get back out onto 101 and continue west (left) into Port Angeles.
Stay on 101 as you travel down to the Port Angeles waterfront where it takes a left through town as S Lincoln St (still 101) and turns west once again.
Shortly thereafter, there is a right turn on W 16th, which you follow to a right on S Pine St.
S Pine St. becomes Black Diamond Rd once you go back across 101 on it and you will stay on this road for another 3 miles or so to 2976 Black Diamond Winery

4. Continuing on from here, you could backtrack but a much prettier drive is following Black Diamond Rd south to the junction at Little River Rd, where you will turn right.
Follow Little River Rd to a left on Olympic Hot Springs Rd, then back out to a right on 101 (east).
Follow this for around 6 miles to 2358 and Harbinger Winery.

5. Head back east (right) on 101 for around a mile until you come to Benson Rd on your right.
Follow this to 354 and Camaraderie Cellars.

And that’s the west leg of the Olympic Peninsula Wine Trail.

Be sure to check with each winery on your list to make sure they’re open the time and day you’re planning to visit.

Taking the tour needn’t be a do-it-yourself affair, though. After all, if you do-it-yourself, someone’s going to be missing out on all the fun in order to drive – so why not take a Chartered Tour?
