NW Wine & Cheese Tour
April 30th & May 1st, 2016, 11am - 5pm
From new release red wines and ciders to locally-made artisan cheeses, the Olympic Peninsula Wineries’ Northwest Wine & Cheese Tour will treat your taste buds to a realm of seasonal delights! Ten wineries and cideries located from Chimacum to Port Townsend to Port Angeles will partner with local cheese-makers to create unique pairings that signify the flavors of the region, complemented by tasty tidbits prepared by local culinary talent. This savory event will take place on Saturday, April 30th and Sunday, May 1st from 11 am – 5 pm. Wine specials will be available throughout the weekend.
“Our regional cheese-makers are producing some fantastic goat, sheep and cow milk cheeses that pair exceptionally well with our new wine releases,” says Vicki Corson, president of the Olympic Peninsula Wineries Association. “We invite wine lovers from around the Sound to come and discover some new favorites.”
Online ticket are available on Eventbrite until 6pm April 29th for $35 plus service fees. Remaining tickets may be purchased at participating wineries during the event for $40. The ticket and glass package entitles you to a special commemorative wine glass, complimentary wine tasting at all ten OPW Wineries and delectable samples of cheese at each winery during the NW Wine & Cheese Weekend. This event does not take place at one location. You travel from winery to winery, visiting the ones you are interested in exploring. Tickets are not required to attend this event. A $7 wine tasting fee will be charged at each winery for non-ticketed visitors. You must be 21 or over to purchase tickets and/or participate in wine tasting. All ticket sales are non-refundable.
The Olympic Peninsula Wineries encourage responsible wine touring and recommend that you have a designated driver in your group. Designated Drivers will be offered other beverages to drink and are invited to enjoy all cheese samples at each winery.
- Be prepared to show your ticket at each winery you visit to let us know you have checked-in.
- Be prepared to show your photo I.D. at each winery
- Please do not bring dogs to NW Wine and Cheese Tour. Some wineries welcome dogs on NON-EVENT days.
- Each person in your party will need to be present when checking in, so the winery can check ID's and distribute tickets
Please Help Us With Our Goal Of Responsible Wine Service...
- No winery will continue to serve or sell wine to any guest who appears intoxicated, even if they have a limo or designated driver.
- Be aware of those around you as you wait at the tasting bar for your sample, make room for others to enjoy the experience as well.
- We recommend limiting the number of wines you sample at each winery and we encourage you to take advantage of dump buckets provided for excess wine.
Wineries Participating in the 2016 NW Wine & Cheese Tour:
1.) Come and savor Spring, Cheese, and Wine at beautiful Marrowstone Vineyards. Sit on our deck, watch the flowers bloom and the mountains come out , and sample our new vintages, harvested the first time this Fall from our very own vineyard. We are very excited to share wine from our own grapes this year. In addition to our own harvest, we have Pinot Gris, Viognier, Barbera, and Pinot Noir made from grapes from Yakima Valley, Lake Chelan, and the Willamette Valley in Oregon. We will be partnering again with Mt. Townsend Cheese this year, pairing their delicious cheese with our white and red wines. In addition, we will be having a special sale on our 2014 dry Gewurtztraminer and Riesling. We will also be having a sale on selected art from local artist, Kathy Constantine. So whether you sip wine and sample cheese on our deck, or stroll through our art gallery, wineglass in hand, the view is exceptional! We look forward to seeing you.
2.) Camaraderie will feature Willapa Hills Creamery—one of our favorite cheese delights. Known for both sheep and cow cheese, they make some of the most interesting cheese you can find. Some of our newest releases will be featured—2013 Tempranillo, 2013 Malbec and we will pull out something not so new, but well-aged.
3.) Wind Rose Cellars will be pouring some new wines. We will be pairing some of our awarding winning wines with the award winning cheeses from Black Sheep Creamery. Black Sheep is a family-owned sheep dairy farm, that specializes in hand-crafted farmstead and artisanal sheep milk cheeses. Wind Rose Cellars will be pouring our 2015 Pinot Grigio, 2013 Lavender Fields Forever (barrel aged Pinot Grigio) 2015 Rosato, 2013 Dolcetto and our 2012 Barbera. We'll also have a VIP bar where visitors can taste several of our other award winning wines as well. If you're coming in early Friday night or looking for something to do Saturday night after the Cheese Tour, stop in at Wind Rose Cellars. We have live music planned for the weekend Friday April 29th "Me and the Boys" local mixture of Kitsap and Clallam County bluegrass musicians. These have a great traditional sound as well as a newgrass style remixing modern tunes into Bluegrass. 7-9pm. Saturday April 30th "Blue Rooster" plays a mixture of blues and rockabilly from with members from Clallam, Kitsap and Jefferson Counties.
4.) Harbinger Winery will be hosting an array of artisan cheeses produced in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. From Samish Bay Creamery in Bow, Washington to the banks of the Rogue River you are about to board the raft and ride the current to Flavorland! Taste how La Petite Fleur is quite possibly the most versatile and cheese-friendly white wine in existence. Pair our vibrant Chardonnay with a soft-ripened gem that was aged to perfection near the banks of the Samish River. How about tasting the newly released fruit forward and racy Primitivo with a beautiful hard-aged cheese that has spent more time in the dark than our cellarmaster? Or be seduced by the intoxicating properties of our Raspberry Bliss (made from fresh locally-grown berries) with an over-the-top smoky blue cheese. The key to a successful “palatial” experience is proper pairing. Harbinger Winery has again gone “above and beyond” and put our own arteries on the line by trying all the wine and cheese combinations to ensure a grand slam tasting experience. But don’t take our word for it; stop by and judge for yourself! All of the wines and cheeses being sampled will be available for sale in the Harbinger tasting room. 5.) Finnriver is celebrating the fresh bounty of Spring with the annual release of our Honey Meadow botanical cider, our estate-grown Golden Russet Cider, a lovely small batch Perry, and a limited edition Plum Wine featuring Port Townsend yellow plums. Enjoy a warm and savory Cheese & Cider fondue featuring local Mt Townsend Creamery cheese and Pane D'Amore cheese bread sticks. Our special guests on Sunday will be a crew from 'Yaks in the Cradle' farm in Quilcene, who will bring along a Tibetan yak so folks can learn more about these versatile and charming creatures. Spring is beautiful on the land and we welcome you here to enjoy it with us!
6.) At Olympic Cellars we love to create an experience for our guests and the Wine and Cheese Tour is no exception. Winemaker Greg will demonstrate how you can make your own cheese. Once you see how easy it is, you will want to pick up a D.I.Y. kit and try it at home. We had some homemade Farmer’s Cheese on our Easter table flavored with fresh chives from the garden. It was luscious. Also, due to its popularity, Bacon Jam will be back for you to spread on cream cheese or brie and we will have a variety of new Pepper Jellies for you to sample. Our magnum, a Tempranillo/Souzao blend will be open for sampling and we will be re-releasing our Barn Nouveau Red. It’s the perfect spring time red: a nice, fruity, Rhone Style blend.
7.) Apple blossoms, fresh cider and two unusual takes on local cheeses will be available for your enjoyment at Alpenfire Cider during the NW Wine and Cheese tour. We will have Mt Townsend Creamery's Red Alder cheese toasted raclette style to a creamy yet crispy perfection. That will be served with our Spark! semi sweet heirloom cider. In celebration of spring we will have Mystery Bays fresh chevre drenched in wildflower honey, sprinkled with dried lavender from Wilderbee Farm and fresh bee pollen. It will be paired with Glow, our single varietal rose' cider. Both will be served on a slice of Pane de Amore Baguette. We will also be serving samples of our latest release of Calypso, fresh blackberry fermented cider aged in rum barrels to a beautiful rose' color. For those wanting to sample our full line of ciders the tasting room will be open for an additional fee. Calypso* Ember* Cinders* Pirate's Plank* Dungeness.
8.) We are continuing with the Lollipop theme; only, that they will be cheesy ones this time, at Lullaby Winery. With the Wine & Cheese tour ticket, three selected wines will be served. Separately, we will host a Reserve Tasting where we will open the 2010 Lalayee and the 2010 Syrah. For $10, you will have a chance to taste wines that are produced in very limited quantity. Our tasting room is small, we are a very small team, and we appreciate your patronage and your patience in weekends like the Wine & Cheese Tour. With gratitude!
9.) At our new tasting room at the Palindrome in Port Townsend, Eaglemount will be serving various smoked cheeses and other local delicacies from Crimson Cove in Poulsbo. We will be pairing the cheeses with our ciders and wines. New releases of ciders and wines include a Cabernet Sauvignon red wine, a Quince Cider, and Raspberry Hopped Cider.
