Lost Mountain Winery
The remote foothills above Sequim open to a high mountain valley where rolling green pastures give way to views of snowy peaks. On a wooded shoulder of Lost Mountain our small family winery has quietly produced limited bottlings of robust red wines for more than a quarter of a century.
For much of that time Lost Mountain Winery has been a well kept local secret. But with a growing number of regional and national awards covering the cedar walls of the tasting room, word has trickled out.
A taste for excellent wine and breathtaking scenery is a family heritage. One side of our family homesteaded a nearby mountain valley more than a century ago. From the other side came a tradition of fine food and wine making from grandparents that learned the craft in their native Italy.
In keeping with our family traditions, the wines are hand-crafted without added sulfites using traditional labor-intensive techniques. Our grapes are hand-picked at the peak of ripeness and rushed to the winery where they are gently crushed and slowly fermented in small lots. The new wine is aged in oak barrels for 12-24 months then carefully bottled and labeled by hand. This natural, unfiltered and unfined style allows these dry red wines to retain their rich and distinct varietal flavors. We specialize in the classic red varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, Barbera, and Cabernet Franc that regularly receive Gold and Silver medals in wine competitions. And, although some seriously good, rich and robust wines are made here, we also continue to produce our eccentric and fun family blend fondly known as our "Distinguished Dago Red". Or try our Cellar Rat Red - an every-changing blend that is made to honor winery workers everywhere.
This scenic mountain hide-a-way is only six miles off of Hwy 101, but it's a delightful drive off the beaten track. The unique setting among the towering firs provides stunning views into the foothills and meadows of the Olympic Mountains. With a small production of less than 1500 cases per year, and a locally high demand, the wines are rarely available out side of our area. You may purchase the wines from the tasting room in person or by phone or email order, and a few select regional outlets. Or join our wine club for automatic shipments directly to your door.
